The short answer
A lighting schedule identifies every decorative and architectural fixture with the technical information needed to coordinate, price, order and install it: model, finish, lamp or integral source, colour temperature, output, voltage, dimming, mounting, control and drawing reference. It is the data companion to the reflected ceiling plan.
A symbol on a ceiling plan says where a light goes. The schedule says which light it is and whether it will work with the circuit, dimmer, ceiling construction and visual intent. Keeping those jobs separate makes the drawing readable without stripping out the information the electrician and purchaser need.
What each column carries
One row per fixture type and configuration. The same pendant in two finishes is two types because it produces two different orders.

Schedule and drawing must reconcile
- Count every type tag on the reflected ceiling plan and compare it with the quantity in the schedule.
- Coordinate mounting heights with elevations, millwork and ceiling details rather than leaving them only in product literature.
- Confirm dimming protocol, driver location and voltage with the electrical designer before the client deposit becomes a non-cancellable order.
- Issue the schedule with a revision date whenever a fixture changes, even if the symbol location stays the same.
Common questions
- What is the difference between a lighting schedule and an RCP?
- The reflected ceiling plan locates fixtures, switching, ceiling changes and other overhead elements. The lighting schedule identifies each fixture type and carries the ordering and technical data. The type tag is the link between them.
- Should decorative lighting be in the FF&E schedule too?
- It may appear in the FF&E schedule for client price, approval and purchasing, but the lighting schedule still carries the technical coordination fields. Use the same item or type reference so the two views stay connected.
